Number of competitors

288 men and 216 women.
* Sixteen men’s and 12 women’s teams, with 18 athletes (11 players and seven substitutes) on each team.
* Each country is limited to one men’s and one women’s team.

Olympics Series : Gymnastics

The London 2012 Olympics will officially begin in six days and I’m sure everyone’s excited about watching the games and giving support to their athletes.

Here’s the second collection of stamps that we have and we’re featuring gymnastics this time.

Artistic Gymnastics :

Competition Dates :

     Saturday 28 July – Tuesday 7 August

Competition Venue :

     North Greenwich Arena

Number of Medal Events :  14

Number of Competitors : 196  (98 men and 98 women)

     Each country is limited to five men and five women

Rhythmic Gymnastics  :

Competition Dates :

     Thursday 9 – Sunday 12 August

Number of Medal Events :

     Two : Individual All-Around and Group All-Around (six gymnasts make up a group, but only five of them compete in each of the two routines)

Number of Competitors :

     96 – all women

     Each country is limited to eight athletes (two Individual athletes and a group of six athletes for the Group event)

Olympics Series : Athletics

The London 2012 Olympics is only 18 days away, and like most sports fans, our family is excited to witness the games and watch as the world’s best athletes compete for the much coveted Olympic medals.

I will be sharing with you the stamp collections that we have that feature the Olympic Games. I will share with you some information about each sport (these info are mostly taken from the official website of the London 2012 Olympics).

 

 

 

Athletics is the perfect expression of the Olympic motto ‘Citius, Altius, Fortius’ (‘Faster, Higher, Stronger’) – the competition requires athletes to run faster, throw further, jump higher and leap longer than their rivals. With 2,000 athletes competing in 47 events, Athletics is the largest single sport at the Games.

Competition dates:

Friday 3 August – Sunday 12 August

Competition venue:

Olympic Park – Olympic Stadium (track, field and combined events)
The Mall (Marathon and Race Walk)

Number of medal events:

47 (24 track, 16 field, two combined and five road)

Number of competitors:

2,000. Each country is limited to three athletes in each individual event and one team  in each relay event (maximum six athletes, of whom four will run).
